Dental filling
A dental filling is a common treatment for a cavity or a damaged tooth in need of repair.
At Bergen Tannklinikk, we use white composite fillings. This ensures a natural result that seamlessly matches the rest of your tooth.

In brief
When you have a cavity, the dentist will first remove the decay and thoroughly clean the area.
The cavity is then filled with a composite material used to seal the tooth.
The filling is shaped and polished so that the tooth achieves a smooth and natural appearance.
What is a dental filling?
A dental filling is a treatment where a damaged tooth is restored using filling material.
Tooth decay, or cavities, is the most common reason for needing a filling. The dentist removes the decayed tooth structure, cleans the area, and places a white filling.
We do not use amalgam. Composite fillings provide an aesthetic, natural, and durable result.
What happens if I wait?
If you delay treating a damaged tooth, the problem may worsen.
Small cavities can often be easily repaired with a filling. If the decay is allowed to progress, you may require more extensive treatment, such as an inlay, a crown, or a root canal.
A tooth that could have been resolved with a simple filling may end up taking more time and costing more if treatment is delayed.
Regular dental visits make it easier to detect issues early on.
What can you expect during treatment?
During a dental filling procedure, the dentist first numbs the area around the tooth with a local anesthetic to minimize any discomfort.
Any damaged or decayed tooth tissue is then removed, and the area is thoroughly cleaned.
Finally, the cavity is filled with the filling material before the tooth is carefully shaped and polished for a smooth, natural finish.
How do you care for dental fillings?
To care for your dental fillings, you should brush your teeth thoroughly twice a day and floss daily.
Avoid biting down on very hard objects, and avoid using your teeth to open packaging or bottle caps.
It is also important to visit the dentist regularly for checkups and professional cleanings.
Old fillings should be evaluated if they begin to discolor, crack, or leak. This helps prevent further damage to the tooth.
Warranty on fillings
A filling can deteriorate over time due to wear and tear as well as external factors.
Bergen Tannklinikk provides a 3-month warranty on fillings placed at our clinic.
If a repair is carried out by the same dentist, there is no cost to the patient. If the repair is performed at another clinic, we are unfortunately unable to cover this.
